History

Lutz began its life with the construction of a small train depot on the Tampa Northern Railroad, carrying materials from Tampa to Brooksville. It was named Lutz Station by William P. Lutz, an engineer with the railroad. The name of the town became official when the U.S. Postal Service authorized a post office. As more and more people moved to the little community from Tampa, Lutz grew into the community it is today, with a country lifestyle that stays close to its roots.
